5/8/04 D 12 MANNY PACQUIAO (Back from the brink. Down 3 times in first round before adjusting to Manny’s hand speed and straight left hand. Steady as the rain with punch output throughout fight, averaging 46 per round. Pacquiao came out blazing, throwing 73 in round one and 77 in round two. Marquez actually outlanded Manny 13-11 in round one, with Manny having a 11-10 edge in power connects. As Marquez began countering effectively, Manny’s punch output dropped, as he averaged just 49 punches per round over the last 10 rounds- the pace Marquez wanted. Marquez actually outlanded Pacquiao 158-148 after 12 rounds, with Manny throwing 639 to Marquez’s 547. Marquez also had a 122-100 edge in power connects, with Manny landing 43% to Marquez’s 36%. Judge Burt Clements, who erroneously scored the first round 10-7, not 10-6, costing Pacquiao the fight, had it 113-113, while John Stewart scored it 115-110 Pacquiao, with Guy Jutras seeing it 115-110 Marquez.
11/3/07 W 12 ROCKY JUAREZ (one-sided drubbing. Juarez, cut by accidental head butt in very first round, let Marquez dictate the pace of the fight.. Marquez landed 252 of 727 (35%-61 thrown per round) to 153 of 610 (25%- 51 thrown per round for the chronically passive Juarez. Marquez also landed 47% of his power shots, including 14 of 21 (67%) in round six. Scoring: 120-108; 118-110; 117-111.)
3/17/07 W 12 MARCO A. BARRERA (landed 38% of his 55 punches thrown per round. Also landed 43% of his power shots (197 of 453) to 146 of 354 (41%) for Barrera. Fight appeared closer than scorecards indicated (116-111 Marquez 2x & 118-109 Marquez). Marquez landed the harder shots all night. Marquez was dominating round seven (landing 33 of 48 power shots) before a Barrera right hand dropped and badly hurt Marquez late in the round. Barrera then hit Marquez while he was on all fours. Referee Jay Nady ruled no knockdown, then took point away from Barrera.)
8/5/06 KO 7 TERDSAK JANDAENG (a desperate Marquez, coming off loss of title to Chris John, landed 57% of his power shots vs. the overmatched, then 24-1 Jandaeng. Jandaeng down late in 2nd, as Marquez landed 22 of 33 power shots in last minute of round. Jandaeng down again in 6th before the end came in7th. Marquez stepped on the gas, averaging 65 punches thrown per round.)
3/4/06 L 12 CHRIS JOHN (lost featherweight title- for $70,000 payday, after turning down a reported $750,000 for Pacquiao rematch…OUCH!! Instead traveled to Indonesia and lost controversial decision to the 35-0-1 John. Fight not exactly “Legendary Nights” material, as they combined to throw just 982 total punches (John 95 of 436 (22%)- Marquez 129 of 546 (24%). Marquez also had a 108-73 edge in power connects, throwing 178 more than John. Marquez lost 2 points for low blows- in 10th (was low) and 11th (appeared to be on beltline). Scoring: 116-110 J; 117-111 J; 116-112 J.)
9/18/04 W 12 ORLANDO SALIDO (not too impressive- understandable coming off draw with Pacquiao 4 months earlier. Landed just 29% of his 47 punches per round. Had a 164-105 edge in total connects over Salido, who landed just 17% of his total punches. Scoring: 118-110; 117-111 2x. Salido beat Robert Guerrero like a drum on 11/4/06 to win a featherweight title only to test positive for steroids. Salido outlanded Guerrero 284-176.)
11/1/03 TW 7 DERRICK GAINER (dreadful fight, prompted by Gainer not showing up. Gainer, defending his version of the feather. Champ.,wanted no part of Marquez, throwing 22 punches per round and landing JUST 16 IN 7 ROUNDS!!! Marquez took what was available, landing 51 of 209 (24%)…Landed 31% of his power shots. Not a candidate for any future “Legendary Nights” shows. This fight was postponed twice before, should have been postponed again!!!)
8/16/03 KO 9 MARCOS LICONA (Licona sub for Gainer, who pulled out with injured pectoral muscle. Glorified sparring session as Marquez landed 34% of his 54 punches per round. Licona landed just 16% of his meager 34 punches per round.)
2/1/03 KO 7 MANUEL MEDINA (won vacant title vs. 3-time champ Medina, who was down twice. Landed 42% of his 60 punches per round. Also landed 46% of his power shots.)
3/9/02 KO 10 ROBBIE PEDEN (wore down inexperienced Peden with body attack, resulting in Peden vomiting between rounds. Avg’d just 48 per round, landing 48%. Also avg’d 23 jabs per round and landed 51% of his power shots. Peden landed just 27% overall.)
9/11/99 L 12 FRED NORWOOD (all-ugly fight. Threw just 37 punches per round vs. slick Norwood. Marquez down twice in 2nd round. Norwood down in 9th. Marquez landed just 89 punches all night- Norwood just 73-enough to get decision, 117-112; 114-112; 115-111.)
